John Owston snr
Donated by the great great granddaughter of John Owston who was probably the most famous coxswain of Scarborough lifeboat. He is often referred to as John Owston snr as his son succeeded him as coxswain. The benefactor is Mrs Janet McCauley of Secret Harbour, Rockingham Western Australia.
Coupland 2nd November 1861
The tragedy of the Coupland was captured by many artists. This painting by Fred Casano is to be found in Scarborough Museum.
Loss of the Scarborough Lifeboat 24 May 1836
From the Royal Collection.
On the right, the lifeboat seen capsizing in high seas, on the way to rescue founder fishing boat just outside the harbour. Lighthouse and harbour on the left, with anxious spectators. Signed, inscribed and dated.
